End with announcement
For years, the controversy over whether CCD or CMOS sensors were better continued, until one day Sony discontinued its CCD production and created a new CMOS standard with the IMX sensors. Although there are still applications where a CCD is superior to CMOS, these are niche rather than mass applications. The EMVA 1288 standard makes it possible to find virtually identical CMOS sensors to replace the CCD sensors still used in numerous applications, without any difference in the camera's performance later on. So it is no surprise that ON Semi is now discontinuing its CCD production. However, since a CMOS is much easier to integrate into cameras than a CCD, a distinguishing feature of camera manufacturers also disappears, making it much easier for new players to play on the camera market.
Kind regards
