The machine vision manufacturers are currently not to be envied. Two of their most important target markets are weakening. One is the automotive sector, which is undergoing change due to the diesel scandal and e-mobility. In addition, the Asian market in particular, which has been largely responsible for the global upswing in machine vision in recent years, has been ailing for some time. In addition to the trade war between China and the USA, it is now mainly the coronavirus that is currently giving the markets a hard time. Vision China Shanghai has already been cancelled, but the supply of components from Asia is also proving increasingly difficult. A worldwide wave of influenza has hit machine vision from all sides.

Prophesee S.A. and Sony Corporation announce they have jointly developed a stacked Event-based vision sensor with the industry's smallest 4.86m pixel size and the industry's highest 124dB (or more) HDR performance. The sensor is possible by combining technical features of Sony's stacked CMOS image sensor with Prophesee's Metavision Event-based vision sensing technologies leading to fast pixel response, high temporal resolution and high throughput data readout.

MVTec has newly filled two leading positions: Mario Bohnacker (l.) is the new Technical Product Manager since January 2020 and responsible for the technical development of the Halcon software. Christian Eckstein (r.) enriches the team as Business Developer and Partner Manager since August 2019. In his position, Eckstein will identify, evaluate and develop new business areas across the entire MVTec product portfolio. As product manager he is also responsible for the MVTec Deep Learning Tool.
