According to estimates by VDMA economists, sales of machinery in 2019 will rise by a nominal 2% overall to almost €2.67tn. Asia remained by far the largest manufacturing region in the machinery industry with €1.37tn. Here, too, the sales increase was 2%. The rate of growth in Europe and in the EU countries as a whole was lower than the global average at plus 1% each. Although the EU countries produced considerably less machinery (€768b) than Asia, they produced more than twice as much as the USA. However, the United States was able to increase its sales strongly by almost 7% to €348b.
